After Twenty-Five Years of Retirement

Roberta Williams returns to Adventure

In 1979, Roberta played the very first text computer game, Colossal Cave Adventure. Her life changed forever. She immediately played every aspect of the game, as game worlds began to grow in her mind. She started working at her kitchen table on a game design, later presenting it to her husband, Ken, and luring him into programming her pet project. Her determination and obsession to achieve all 350 points of Colossal Cave Adventure became the impetus for what would become the entire adventure game genre.

Forty-five years later, after two decades away — cruising the world, writing, retiring — Roberta and Ken came back to finish what that kitchen-table moment started. And now, Colossal Cave 3D is their first new game in twenty-five years. A perfect, balanced circle.

Design Philosophy

Story Comes First

Great games immerse you into a fictional world, inducing you to deeply care about what happens next.

Player Freedom

Give players real choices, trusting them to forge their own path through the world.

Puzzles With Purpose

Every challenge should feel meaningful, earned, and rewarding to solve.

Emotion & Immersion

The best adventures stay with you long after the screen has gone dark.

Hero(ine)s Galore

King Graham. Princess Rosella. Prince Alexander. Laura Bow. Adrienne Delaney. The hero is always brave, empathetic, and admirable. Sometimes it's you.

Always Pushing The Envelope

Better graphics. First animated avatar. Richer soundscapes. Higher resolutions. Full Motion Horror. Advancement has always been the point.

The Adventure Lives On

Forty-five years after the game that sparked it all, the circle closes. Experience Roberta's reimagining of Colossal Cave on your platform of choice.
